Mason Greenwood is considering restarting his international career with Jamaica, as he remains eligible to switch allegiance from England, despite not yet representing Jamaica at the international level.

Greenwood’s club future, previously overshadowed by serious allegations of attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault, has become clearer following Manchester United’s decision to part ways with the 21-year-old.

After a six-month internal investigation, the club decided to support Greenwood in finding opportunities elsewhere, with loan deals being more likely than a permanent transfer.

Roma has emerged as a potential option for Greenwood, offering a chance to reunite with former manager Jose Mourinho. Loan talks have also begun with Atalanta, Inter, Monaco, and clubs in Germany, Turkey, Spain, and the Saudi Pro League.

Despite making 135 first-team appearances by the age of 20, Greenwood’s international experience is limited. His England debut in 2020 ended in controversy when he and Phil Foden were expelled from the team for breaching Covid-19 protocols.

Attempts to bring Greenwood back into the England setup, including talks with manager Gareth Southgate, were hampered by his arrest and legal issues.

Additionally, there were rumors of dissatisfaction within his camp over media coverage, despite his absence from international play.

Greenwood’s potential switch to Jamaica is rooted in his ancestry, with the Jamaica Football Federation showing interest since 2021.

FIFA rules allow players to change national teams as long as they haven’t played more than three senior international matches before turning 21, a rule revised in 2020 to offer more flexibility.

While Greenwood’s past has been marked by controversy and missed opportunities, he now has the chance to make a fresh start with Jamaica, should he choose to pursue it within FIFA’s regulations.
