Mark Goldbridge has expressed his frustration over Manchester United’s reported interest in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, calling the potential signing a poor decision.

As the January transfer window nears its end, United has yet to make an addition under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Instead, the club has been focused on departures, with Antony heading to Real Betis on loan and continued speculation surrounding the futures of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

Reports indicate that INEOS, United’s owners, have identified Nkunku as a priority target to strengthen the squad.

However, Goldbridge took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the move, describing it as a disastrous decision that could harm the club.

His comments have sparked debate among fans, with some agreeing with his concerns while others point to Nkunku’s impressive record at RB Leipzig as a reason for optimism.

Since joining Chelsea, Nkunku has struggled to match his Bundesliga form, managing only 16 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions, with most of those goals coming outside the Premier League.

However, his time at Leipzig saw him score 70 goals and register 54 assists in 172 games, leading some United supporters to believe he could still make a strong impact at Old Trafford.

The situation has been further complicated by rumors of a potential swap deal involving Garnacho and Nkunku.

Reports suggest Chelsea is keen on acquiring Garnacho, a prospect that has infuriated many United fans who see the young winger as a key part of the club’s future.

Goldbridge and other critics have slammed the idea, viewing it as a reckless gamble that could backfire, particularly given United’s ongoing struggles with inconsistency.

Manager Ruben Amorim has taken a cautious approach to transfers, prioritizing the improvement of his current squad over rushed signings.

While he acknowledges the unpredictability of the transfer market, Amorim appears determined to avoid short-term fixes that may not benefit the club in the long run.

The transfer strategy under INEOS has faced growing criticism, with many fans questioning the club’s direction and vision.

Goldbridge’s concerns reflect wider frustrations over United’s history of expensive signings that fail to deliver.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, the pressure is on United to make the right moves to stabilize their season and shape their future.
