Tyrell Malacia was seen celebrating Manchester United’s FA Cup final victory at Wembley Stadium, much to the delight of supporters who were thrilled to see him after a long absence.
The 24-year-old defender, who joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 for about £15 million, has not played for the club since undergoing knee surgery last summer. His last appearance for the Reds was on May 28, 2023.
Malacia was expected to return to first-team action in February, but Erik ten Hag later announced that he would likely miss the rest of the 2023-24 season, stating, “I believe it will be tough for him to be available this season.”
Fans were concerned due to Malacia’s lack of social media activity, with his last Instagram post on July 11, 2023, and his last tweet shortly thereafter.
However, on Saturday afternoon, he joined his United teammates on the Wembley pitch after their 2-1 FA Cup victory over Manchester City, and fans were ecstatic to see him.
One fan said, “Can’t tell you how delighted I am to see Malacia,” while another asked, “Is Tyrell Malacia in line for a medal?” A third remarked, “It’s great to see Tyrell Malacia out there with the United players enjoying their FA Cup victory. Hopefully, we will see him in action next season.”
Erik ten Hag recently discussed Malacia’s situation in an interview with Voetbal International, saying, “Tyrell Malacia did not play a single minute of football this season. In reality, he didn’t spend a single second on the training pitch. We hired him as a backup for Luke Shaw.”
