Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Brighton after a controversial decision led to a seemingly legitimate second goal being ruled out.
United thought they had taken the lead in the 70th minute when Alejandro Garnacho, who had just come off the bench, tapped in a cross from Bruno Fernandes.
However, confusion arose as the goal was reviewed, with the ball having made slight contact with fellow substitute Joshua Zirkzee.
Slow-motion replays showed that Zirkzee’s knee was just over the line and slightly ahead of Garnacho when the ball was played, leading the VAR to rule him offside.
As a result, the goal was disallowed, leaving United players and fans frustrated. The Premier League later clarified the decision via their Match Centre Twitter account, confirming that Zirkzee was indeed offside,
