Recent reports indicate that Manchester City is increasingly confident in securing the signing of Jamal Musiala during the upcoming summer transfer window.
While Liverpool and Chelsea have also shown interest in the Bayern Munich attacking midfielder, the Premier League champions appear to have the upper hand in negotiations.
According to the Daily Star, Musiala has declined a contract extension offer from Bayern Munich, fueling speculation about a potential move.
Both Manchester City and Liverpool are actively pursuing Musiala’s signature, with scouts from both clubs in attendance during Bayern’s recent Bundesliga defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern had proposed a new contract worth £150,000 per week to retain the services of the 21-year-old, whose current deal runs until June 2026. Musiala, a 25-cap Germany international, has been a key contributor to Bayern this season, tallying four assists and nine goals in 28 appearances.
However, it was reportedly communicated to Manchester City last week that Musiala has opted against signing a contract extension. The former Chelsea academy product has amassed over 150 appearances for Bayern Munich.
Although Liverpool holds an interest in Musiala, Manchester City is growing increasingly confident about securing his signature. Chelsea remains in the mix as well, but their chances of completing a transfer may hinge on their qualification for European competition.
Musiala is anticipated to command a fee of at least £80 million, with potential weekly wages reaching £200,000. His current earnings at Bayern stand at an estimated £90,000 per week.
The German player has subtly hinted at a possible move to the Premier League, stating last year: “The Premier League is currently the strongest and most appealing league in the world, but I feel content here and am focused on achieving success with Bayern. However, you never know what may transpire in a few years.”
At just 21 years old, Musiala is currently showcasing the peak of his footballing abilities, and his potential transfer to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City would see them acquire one of the most promising young talents in the sport.
With Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Jamal Musiala potentially forming part of the same team, it would present a daunting challenge for defenders.
