Manchester United fans have singled out Lisandro Martinez for criticism following the team’s disappointing 3-2 home loss to Nottingham Forest.
The defeat marked United’s sixth Premier League loss of the season, as Ruben Amorim’s side struggled against Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest on Saturday.
Nikola Milenkovic gave the visitors an early lead with a header from a corner, but Rasmus Hojlund equalized for the Red Devils.
In the second half, United’s defense faltered, conceding twice in seven minutes. Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s lead, followed by Chris Wood’s looping header, which sailed past Andre Onana, making it 3-1. Bruno Fernandes managed to pull one back, but it wasn’t enough to salvage the match.
Fans were quick to vent their frustration on social media, with Martinez receiving heavy criticism for his role in two of Forest’s goals.
He failed to stop Milenkovic during the set-piece and allowed the ball to pass him during Wood’s goal.
Comments on social media included statements like:
– “Martinez has to go. He’s so poor.”
– “Can’t believe Lisandro Martinez used to get compared to VVD and Saliba.”
– “Lisandro Martinez proving again why he is the worst defender when it comes to aerial coverage.”
Martinez, signed for £57 million by Erik ten Hag in 2022, has made 77 appearances for United across all competitions. However, his recent form has drawn significant criticism from supporters.
Manchester United currently sit 13th in the Premier League and face Manchester City in their next fixture, hoping to turn their season around.
