Manchester United Fans React to Tyrell Malacia’s Performance Against FCSB

Manchester United supporters shared a collective opinion on Tyrell Malacia’s underwhelming display in the Europa League clash against FCSB.

The Red Devils have shown renewed form in Europe since Ruben Amorim took over as manager last November. Under Erik ten Hag, they struggled with three consecutive draws before his dismissal in 2024.

However, under Ruud van Nistelrooy and Amorim, United **secured four straight wins** before their trip to Bucharest.

With a **disappointing domestic campaign** leaving them 12th in the Premier League and trailing the top four by 12 points after 23 matches, **the Europa League remains their best shot at Champions League qualification**.

Malacia Struggles in United’s System*

Making his long-awaited return after **missing the entire previous season due to injury**, Malacia endured a **difficult night in Bucharest**.

Since arriving from Feyenoord in 2022, he has primarily served as **backup to Luke Shaw** and has featured in just eight matches this season following two knee surgeries.

Playing as a wing-back in **Amorim’s tactical system**, the Dutchman **struggled to make an impact on the left flank.

His lack of attacking influence saw United reach halftime in a goalless draw before he was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho.

United Fans React to Malacia’s Display

Following the match, fans took to social media platform **X (formerly Twitter)** to express concerns over Malacia’s future, particularly with **Patrick Dorgu reportedly close to signing from Lecce**.

Many believe the Danish defender **would be a significant upgrade** and suggested that Malacia’s playing time would diminish further once Dorgu arrives.

One fan commented: *“This Malacia performance is screaming, ‘That’s why we signed Dorgu.’”*

Another wrote: *“The difference Dorgu will make in this team will be huge.

Amorim’s system relies on attacking wing-backs, but Malacia is a natural left-back. He doesn’t take on defenders like Dorgu will. The gap will be obvious.”*

A third fan tweeted: *“If Dorgu was playing in this exact team, we’d look 100% more dangerous. The left side lacked confidence and directness.

Malacia was too cautious and off the pace. He did put in one decent cross, to be fair, but we need much more from that position.”*

Another frustrated supporter posted: *“Can Dorgu come on at halftime? Malacia just isn’t cutting it.”*

What’s Next for Malacia?

Fans highlighted **his cautious approach, lack of attacking threat, and struggles in Amorim’s system**, emphasizing the need for a **more dynamic wing-back**.

Many now believe that **Dorgu will be a better fit**, and some even suggested that Malacia’s time at United **could be nearing its end**.

Given that he is still regaining match fitness after a **long injury layoff**, some struggles were expected. However, this performance **exposed his limitations** in a system that demands offensive contributions from wing-backs.

With United also linked to **Miguel Gutiérrez and Milos Kerkez**, there are questions about whether the club should **target multiple left-back options** or if **Dorgu alone would be enough**.

Do you think Malacia still has a future at United as Shaw’s backup, or will **Dorgu’s arrival push him out completely**?
