Criticism abounds over controversial decisions in Carabao Cup final as Mo Salah responds

Liverpool emerged victorious in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley, but contentious calls during the match sparked debates among current and former Liverpool players.

The match between the Reds and Chelsea was intense, with goals disallowed for Raheem Sterling and Virgil van Dijk. Additionally, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo narrowly avoided a red card following a robust challenge on Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made crucial saves to thwart Chelsea’s attacks throughout the game. Ultimately, Van Dijk’s goal in extra-time secured the cup for Liverpool.

The celebrations have been ongoing in both London and Liverpool since the victory. Below are reactions from Wembley and Anfield:

Redknapp condemns “disgusting” challenge

Jamie Redknapp supported Jurgen Klopp’s strong reaction to Caicedo’s tackle on Gravenberch. During an analysis on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool player remarked, “It’s a reckless challenge, particularly when Gravenberch’s foot is firmly planted. It looks appalling.”

Redknapp emphasized the severity of the challenge and understood Klopp’s frustration with the referee’s decision to only issue a warning to Caicedo. Gravenberch had to be substituted off and was replaced by Joe Gomez.

Salah echoes Klopp’s sentiments

Liverpool’s Mo Salah, sidelined due to injury, also expressed his dissatisfaction with Caicedo’s challenge on Gravenberch. Salah protested to the officials, appealed to his teammates, and shook his head in response to the incident.

Salah’s reaction mirrored Klopp’s visible frustration with the tackle, as the German engaged in a heated exchange with the match officials.
