Liverpool Receive Boost in Salah Contract Talks as Star Forward Reportedly Willing to Take Pay Cut

Liverpool fans are anxiously awaiting confirmation on whether Mohamed Salah will extend his stay at Anfield, and a new report from Europe offers a glimmer of hope that a breakthrough may be close.

With less than three months remaining on his current deal, Salah is among a trio of key players—alongside Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold—whose futures remain uncertain.

While Alexander-Arnold appears destined for Real Madrid, Van Dijk recently revealed that negotiations are progressing, raising optimism about his continued presence in Arne Slot’s plans for next season.

Salah Open to Pay Cut to Stay at Anfield

European journalist Sacha Tavolieri, writing for *skysport.ch*, has shared that Salah is willing to make financial sacrifices in order to stay at Liverpool.

The 32-year-old forward has reportedly agreed to reduce his wages—something club executives did not expect—which could pave the way for a new deal.

Despite receiving lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia worth up to £3.5 million per week, Salah has made it clear he sees his future on Merseyside.

Instead of chasing a massive payday, he’s focused on securing a long-term extension with Liverpool, even if it means accepting less than his current £350,000-per-week wage.

FSG’s Change in Stance

Initially, Liverpool’s owners FSG were not planning to offer Salah a new deal. But with uncertainty surrounding Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, the club now views Salah’s potential renewal as a crucial statement of intent.

As the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history, his presence carries both symbolic and sporting significance.

Time Running Out

Liverpool have until June 30 to reach an agreement before Salah becomes a free agent. While the clock is ticking, his reported willingness to compromise on salary could remove one of the key stumbling blocks in contract talks.

Although Salah is currently going through a rough patch—managing just two goals in his last seven appearances, both from the penalty spot—his value to the team remains immense. Keeping him at the club, even for another season or two, would be a major win for the Reds.

If a deal is finalized soon—and if Van Dijk follows suit—Liverpool could be poised for a memorable end to the season, especially if they reclaim the Premier League title.
