Liverpool youngster Owen Beck, currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers, was controversially sent off during the goalless Lancashire derby after reacting to being bitten by Preston North End’s Milutin Osmajic.
“Owen has a noticeable bite mark on the back of his neck, and it’s unfortunate the referee missed it,” Rovers manager John Eustace told BBC Radio Lancashire (via BBC Sport).
Osmajic’s actions have drawn comparisons to former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who infamously bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013.
The FA is likely to review footage of the incident to determine if any retrospective action will be taken.
In Suarez’s case, he received a 10-game ban, and it’s possible that Osmajic could face a similar punishment. A review may also exonerate Beck and potentially reduce his three-match suspension.
