It’s already been a summer of significant changes for Liverpool, and it appears Caoimhin Kelleher might soon join the list of departures.
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, “It remains to be seen if a club will test Liverpool’s resolve to keep £25 million-rated reserve goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who is desperate to become a No 1.”
It’s a peculiar situation for the club and its supporters, as Kelleher is clearly capable of playing first-team football, and it wouldn’t be fair to hinder his progression.
However, given his talent, it’s tough to see him leave after the effort put into developing him.
With Alisson Becker’s inconsistent injury record last year (the Brazilian played 32 times compared to Kelleher’s 26), keeping Kelleher might be wise.
A £25 million fee is reasonable for any top club, so there will likely be interest in him.
Considering former Red Kamil Grabara’s £15 million move to Wolfsburg despite having less experience, Kelleher could be a steal for the right club.
If he leaves, Liverpool would be left with Vítezslav Jaros as the second choice, likely necessitating the recruitment of another goalkeeper.
Amidst all the ongoing changes, Kelleher’s price will likely attract interest, adding more work for the recruitment department.
