Exclusive: Liverpool move closer to signing teenage defender, with another young centre-back targeted

Liverpool are nearing an agreement to sign left-footed centre-back Mor Ndiaye, along with another highly rated teenage defender, both of whom would initially join Rob Page’s Under-21 squad.

The Reds are close to finalising a deal for Ndiaye, who represented Senegal at the recent FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar.

The 17-year-old is expected to be added to Page’s Under-21 setup if the transfer is completed, with Amara Nallo likely to head out on loan this month as a result.

The move has been facilitated by Matt Newberry, Liverpool’s head of global talent.

Ndiaye, who turns 18 on January 6, is currently registered with Amitié Football Club in Senegal, a club owned by former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba.

Liverpool are also holding discussions with Austria Vienna over another young central defender, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, with the intention of bringing him in during the summer.

The Austria youth international is still only 17, but Liverpool hope to reach an agreement that would see him arrive at Anfield at the start of pre-season in July.

The Vienna-born defender would also initially be placed into the Under-21 group, although he is regarded internally as a prospect with the potential to progress to the first team in the future.

Ndukwe does not turn 18 until March, but is seen as a physically imposing teenager with long-term senior potential.

Austria reached the final of the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, losing narrowly to Portugal in the final after defeating England 4-0 in the round of 16.
