Kaoru Mitoma, a winger for Brighton, is reportedly a target for four clubs, including Liverpool.

According to 90min, in addition to the Reds and Napoli, Manchester City, Barcelona, and the Japan international are all “keeping tabs” on his future.

The 26-year-old is content at Amex Stadium, and the south coast squad is confident that he will immediately accept improved terms, even though the Seagulls are hoping to secure a new contract for him before the end of 2023.

Talks over a new contract began shortly after the January transfer window and have continued for a number of months. It is now thought that the talks are “advancing towards an agreement.”

Kaoru Mitoma is the subject of attention from four teams, including Liverpool.

The elusive Mitoma was a notable performer for Brighton during their historic 2022–23 campaign, contributing seven league goals and six assists to the team’s first-ever appearance in Europe under Roberto De Zerbi.

He extended his stellar performance into the early weeks of current season by scoring in the 4-1 victory over Wolves last month and adding three assists in the Seagulls’ first four games.

The club’s CEO, Paul Barber, described the 26-year-old as “so exciting to watch” and “a throwback to old-school wingers” on the The Beautiful Game podcast, a description that is supported by the star player from Japan’s explosive dribbling skills.

Even though they have managed to stave off Saudi Arabian interest in Mo Salah for the time being, Liverpool may be mindful of the possibility of losing their legendary number 11 next year, which is why they are apparently interested in Mitoma.

The Brighton wizard’s primary position is left winger, so he might not be the Egyptian’s instant successor. But if a position on the right flank becomes available for the Merseysiders’ starting lineup, Jurgen Klopp might opt to start Cody Gakpo.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can convince the 26-year-old to reunite with former Seagulls teammate Alexis Mac Allister at Anfield because they already have a clear understanding of the danger the player can pose after he scored the game-winning goal against them in an FA Cup match in January.
