TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has suggested that Liverpool should consider Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

This comes after Liverpool’s surprising 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, marking their first defeat under new manager Arne Slot. Despite Salah’s efforts, he couldn’t prevent the defeat.

Although Liverpool kept Salah during the summer transfer window, uncertainty surrounds his future, as well as that of key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, all of whom are out of contract after the 2024-2025 season.

Salah, in particular, continues to attract interest from the Saudi Pro League, and speculation about his departure persists.

While he may extend his stay at Anfield, his potential exit remains a concern for Liverpool.

Reports suggest Liverpool is preparing to open contract talks with Salah to keep him beyond next summer, but the club understands his departure is inevitable at some point and is likely preparing for life without him.

Liverpool is likely exploring several replacement options, possibly targeting international talent or considering Premier League alternatives.

Cascarino has highlighted Mbeumo as a strong candidate. Speaking to talkSPORT, Cascarino praised the Brentford forward, saying, “If Mo Salah left, Mbeumo would be the one I’d target. He’s got goals, durability, and is always a nuisance on the pitch.”

Since joining Brentford from Troyes in 2019, the 25-year-old Cameroon international has scored 53 goals and provided 42 assists in 204 appearances, becoming one of the Premier League’s most reliable attackers.

Valued at around £35 million, Mbeumo has been crucial to Brentford’s success, but with his contract expiring in 2026, he may soon face a decision about his future.

Whether Mbeumo extends his stay at Brentford or seeks a new challenge, his performances have drawn attention from bigger clubs.

His goal-scoring ability, work rate, and versatility make him a strong candidate to succeed at a higher level. Should Salah leave, Mbeumo’s skill set could make him a good fit for Liverpool.

With his current form and reasonable price tag, Mbeumo could be a smart investment for Liverpool as they plan for the future.
