Joe Gomez’s injury troubles continue as he faces another setback. The England defender was forced off in the first half of Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Plymouth with a suspected hamstring issue.
Gomez, who had already missed 11 games earlier this season due to a hamstring injury, was substituted in the 11th minute, with Isaac Mabaya coming on to replace him.
Given Gomez’s previous struggles with hamstring issues, there is concern this could be another serious injury.
During the match, ITV 1 footage showed Gomez avoiding sprinting back to cover a Plymouth counter-attack, but he did walk off the pitch, which may suggest the issue isn’t too severe. However, we’ll await confirmation from manager Arne Slot after the game.
If the injury is confirmed, recovery time could range from 3 to 12 weeks, depending on the severity. We remain hopeful that Gomez caught the problem early, and that it may not be as serious as feared.
