Liverpool have reportedly initiated talks with the agent of Ademola Lookman, a standout Serie A forward who has had an exceptional 2024.
Despite having a strong attacking lineup featuring Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz, Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, appears intent on further bolstering the offensive options in Arne Slot’s squad. A former Everton player could now be on Liverpool’s radar.
Liverpool in Talks with Lookman’s Agent
According to Sacha Tavolieri via *SkySport.ch*, Liverpool have reached out to the agent of Ademola Lookman, who is expected to leave Atalanta in the near future.
The Italian club has expressed its willingness to negotiate a transfer for the 27-year-old, who is reportedly keen on a return to English football after spending over two years in Serie A.
Atalanta, currently leading the league, has set a minimum asking price of €50m (£41.3m) for Lookman. The club recognizes that this may be the ideal time to sell and secure a maximum fee for the in-demand forward.
Lookman Could Strengthen Liverpool’s Attack
Lookman enjoyed a phenomenal 2023/24 season, scoring 17 goals for Atalanta, including a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. He has continued that form into the current campaign, with 11 goals in 19 matches.
Liverpool scouts reportedly monitored the Nigeria international during the autumn, and the club was linked with him in the summer transfer window, suggesting he has been on their radar for some time.
Primarily deployed as a second striker or center-forward, Lookman’s underlying metrics—such as assists, shot-creating actions, progressive carries, successful take-ons, and non-penalty goals—rank him among the best in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024 (FBref).
While his previous stint at Everton might raise questions about a move to Anfield, his underwhelming spell there (four goals in 48 appearances) could make a switch to Liverpool seem less controversial, especially given his recent success in Italy.
Although Liverpool may prioritize addressing defensive injuries in the January transfer window, Lookman’s quality and form make him a compelling option to further enhance their already potent attacking lineup.
