Dani Carvajal’s recent injury has prompted Real Madrid to step up their pursuit of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Carvajal sustained a serious injury in his latest appearance for Madrid, tearing his ACL in a collision with Yeremy Pino during their 2-0 victory over Villarreal.
With Carvajal expected to be sidelined for an extended period, Real Madrid is accelerating their efforts to sign Alexander-Arnold.
The 25-year-old full-back’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, which has fueled the interest from the 15-time European champions.
If Liverpool fails to secure a contract extension, Alexander-Arnold will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs starting in January.
Real Madrid is now preparing a January offer for Alexander-Arnold. According to a Fichajes report, Madrid initially planned to pursue a free transfer in the summer, but Carvajal’s injury has pushed them to make an offer during the winter window.
Given his contract situation, Madrid is prepared to offer Liverpool £10 million (€12 million), despite Alexander-Arnold’s high standing as one of the top attacking full-backs.
Although Liverpool has been firm about not negotiating in January, the lack of progress in extending Alexander-Arnold’s contract could force the club to reconsider.
Since joining Liverpool’s first team in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has contributed to 102 goals in 319 appearances across all competitions.
