Kylian Mbappe is poised to make a move to Real Madrid once his contract with PSG concludes at the season’s end, fulfilling the long-persistent speculations connecting him to Bernabeu.
According to Foot Mercato, Mbappe recently reached an agreement with Real Madrid, allowing him to engage with other clubs from New Year’s Day due to his contract situation.
The reported financial terms of Mbappe’s new agreement with Real Madrid are said to be less than the offer made by the club in 2022. Real Madrid has pursued the 25-year-old Frenchman as their primary transfer target for several years, consistently attempting his signing during past summers.
Despite their efforts, financial limitations hindered the move, particularly after Karim Benzema’s departure to Saudi Arabia last summer, leaving a notable gap for a prominent striker.
Following his reluctance to extend his PSG contract after the failed move, Mbappe was initially excluded from the first team. However, manager Luis Enrique’s endeavors succeeded in reintegrating him in the hopes of persuading him to stay in Paris. Nonetheless, these attempts seem to have fallen short, resulting in PSG losing their star player without a transfer fee.
This development also deals a setback to Premier League clubs that were vying to surpass Madrid’s bid and entice the 2018 World Cup winner to England. Mbappe’s impressive season, marked by 25 goals in 24 games for PSG and a recent hat-trick in the French Cup, has only heightened the competition for his signature.
Mbappe’s departure signifies a significant loss for PSG, following the exits of Neymar and Lionel Messi within a year. His prolific six-and-a-half-year tenure at Parc des Princes witnessed an astonishing 237 goals, averaging 35 goals per season. The initial transfer from Monaco to PSG in 2017 amounted to £160 million.
At Real Madrid, Mbappe is set to join talents such as Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, becoming the linchpin of Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking setup. This move heralds a new chapter for Mbappe and contributes another stellar name to Real Madrid’s collection of footballing talents.
