According to Luke Edwards, it is “possible” that Liverpool may try to steal Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid because there “has been some contact in the past” and there “could be action in January.”
After interest in Mbappe in every single transfer window, the possibility that he may leave Paris Saint-Germain finally looks likely. Although he has the option to extend his contract, which expires in the summer, he has officially informed PSG that he would not be exercising that option.
Because of this, the Ligue 1 powerhouses attempted to offload him in the summer. However, Mbappe promptly rejected a world-record offer from Al-Hilal.
His opposition to moving to Saudi Arabia and his want to leave PSG point to the possibility of a move within Europe, and Real Madrid has long appeared to be in the background.
While Edwards believes the striker wants the transfer, he has described the possibility that Liverpool or Manchester City might seize the opportunity as early as January, with the former having already started moving the pieces for a trade.
“I believe Mbappe is determined on joining Real Madrid, but I believe there may be some movement in January. The Premier League has wealthy clubs, he asserted on BBC Football Daily.
“I could imagine Manchester City making a play for Mbappe if they made the decision to do so and had support from Mbappe’s team.
There have been hazy rumors that Liverpool is also interested. Through middlemen, clubs have occasionally communicated in the past. I predict that there will only be a little activity in January. I’m not sure where he would prefer to go.
In fact, Edwards believes that even though Real may be in the lead, either of the other teams could overtake them.
“Yeah, teams like Manchester City and Liverpool might make a move for him in January. All indications lead to him going to Real Madrid, but I don’t think it’s impossible to hijack that deal, according to Edwards.
Mbappe has already turned down a significant transfer, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he turned down offers from both Manchester United and Real Madrid in order to move to the Spanish club.
