A Liverpool player has voiced his frustration regarding his future after the club’s summer transfer activities.
Liverpool had a relatively quiet transfer window, bringing in only two players before it closed. Federico Chiesa arrived from Juventus for up to £12.5 million, and Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed from Valencia.
However, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the 2024/25 season before joining Liverpool in 2025/26.
The signing of the Georgian goalkeeper has reportedly left Caoimhin Kelleher frustrated, raising doubts about his future with the club. Kelleher, who wants regular playing time, has questioned Liverpool’s direction.
Ahead of Ireland’s Nations League match against Greece, Kelleher said, “I’ve been clear over the past few years that I want to be a number one and play consistently.
The club’s decision to bring in another goalkeeper seems to indicate they are heading in a different direction.”
Kelleher added that while many assume his future is entirely in his control, it isn’t always that simple.
“It’s been reported that Liverpool have turned down a few offers for me. My ambition is clear: I believe I’m good enough, and I want to go out and prove it.”
The 25-year-old, who has spent his entire career at Liverpool and made 47 appearances since debuting in 2019/20, started in Ireland’s recent defeat to England.
