If a designated commission finds that the match officials broke the rules by disallowing Luis Diaz’s goal, the Premier League may look into the prospect of repeating the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool game.
In an effort to be honest, the authority that regulates referees, PGMOL, has made audio recordings of the event available. But this won’t take place until Liverpool has the chance to examine the verbal exchanges between referee Simon Hooper, VAR Darren England, and assistant Dan Cook.
Hooper served as the fourth official in Monday night’s match between Fulham and Chelsea, signaling that he has been cleared of any misconduct while England and Cook have been provisionally suspended by PGMOL.
Although Liverpool did not expressly ask for a repeat of the game, it was clear from their statement that they were considering all of their options, including maybe seeking legal counsel.
Stephen Taylor Heath, co-head of Sports Law at JMW Solicitors, claims that Rule L18 of the Premier League gives the league’s board the power to order a rematch of a game if a commission under Rule W51 recommends it. In addition, Rule W1 permits the Premier League’s board to investigate alleged rule violations, including those committed by match officials, while Rule N4 requires match officials to abide by FA regulations as well as the Laws of the Game and protocol.
The Premier League could decide to replay Tottenham Hotspur's game with Liverpool – if an appointed commission rules that the match officials breached the Laws of the game when it came to ruling out Luis Diaz's goal.
