Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has disclosed that he anticipates being without goalkeeper Alisson and winger Diogo Jota for the foreseeable future.
The Reds, set to face Luton on Wednesday followed by the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, are grappling with an injury crisis.
In addition to Alisson, Jota, and Curtis Jones, who are nursing injuries, the treatment room already houses Dominik Szoboszlai, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, and Joel Matip.
During his press conference on Tuesday, Klopp provided updates on Liverpool’s fitness woes and cautioned fans that the injury situation would persist. “Not great, I would like to say no issues but we have some,” he began.
“Not available: Ali, muscle injury, we don’t know how long it will take but definitely not the foreseeable time coming back. Then we have Diogo with a knee issue is ruled out. Curtis, with a bone/ligament issue, is ruled out.
“With others, we will deal with it day by day. With muscle things, we will see for tomorrow. If you see the line-up early enough you can see who made it and who didn’t make it. That’s it, pretty much.”
Klopp further remarked, “With Diogo it will obviously rather take months [and not weeks]. And Curtis… with injuries you have important days, like day five or day ten, when you judge the situation again, because not everyone reacts in the same way.
It depends on the pain level they still have and stuff like this. I couldn’t give you a timeframe even if I wanted to. They all react differently. That is just how it is. When you don’t have these players it makes no sense [to speculate].
“The longer-term, Trent and Dom are on their way back but not in team training yet, so that means they are not available as well. That is the situation.
What I said after the game directly is as long as we have 11 players we will go for it and that is exactly the idea. With the boys it’s day by day and with the games it’s game by game.”
Mohamed Salah was not mentioned during Klopp’s press conference, leaving fans anxious after reports in Egypt suggested that the forward had aggravated the hamstring injury he suffered at the World Cup.
Klopp also did not provide an update on Darwin Nunez, who was substituted during the victory over Brentford due to a minor complaint.
