With only nine players left, Liverpool was unable to hold off Tottenham’s late onslaught and finally lost 2-1 as a result of Joel Matip’s tragic own goal in the 96th minute.
This season, Tottenham has experienced a surge of joy that is almost tangible. However, while one club is having success in the world of sports, another frequently experiences frustration; in this case, it was Liverpool, specifically Matip.
Matip and Van Dijk had played flawless defence the whole second half. Though it’s difficult to measure, mental tiredness is a factor, and Tottenham’s constant pressure eventually paid off. Following the game, Klopp spoke about the game and referees.
Inquiring about the game, Klopp said, “For you it is humorous. It’s just too pricey for me. Never have I seen a game that was that unfair.
“Our entire team is made up of man-mountains!”
“This is a real knock today. We would have, I don’t know, celebrated the point. We are now without purpose.
I told the boys, Klopp said. Football is a game of results, but what can you achieve if you can’t get a performance?
Klopp: "I never saw a more unfair game."
