Liverpool Not in Talks for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool are not currently engaged in negotiations to sign Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, despite recent reports suggesting initial discussions had taken place.

The highly sought-after defender has impressed since joining the Bundesliga side from Celtic in 2021, attracting significant interest from top clubs.

Speculation regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of right-sided defenders has intensified amid ongoing contract uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The England international, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, has yet to agree to new terms, raising concerns that Liverpool could lose him for nothing—missing out on a potential £100m transfer fee.

Alexander-Arnold is reportedly weighing up an offer from Real Madrid, who previously attempted to sign him at a reduced price during the January transfer window.

While Liverpool remain hopeful of securing a contract extension, they are also preparing contingency plans should he depart.

Frimpong is one of several players being monitored by Liverpool’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Richard Hughes.

The 24-year-old, who can also operate as a wing-back, is expected to be in high demand this summer, with Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United also linked with him. His Dutch nationality further connects him to Liverpool’s incoming head coach, Arne Slot.

In addition to Alexander-Arnold, both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are approaching the end of their contracts. Negotiations are ongoing, but their futures remain uncertain, setting up what is likely to be a busy summer transfer window for Liverpool.

The club is already set to strengthen its squad with the arrival of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, following a £29 million deal agreed last year.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as a strong candidate to reinforce Liverpool’s left-back position as part of a planned squad refresh.
