Liverpool’s Summer Transfer Plans: A Striker Shake-Up on the Horizon?

James Pearce has highlighted a key area in Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad that is likely to see reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.

Following reports from Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele that “money is not an issue” for Liverpool’s transfer plans, fans could see significant movement this summer—especially if Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, or Trent Alexander-Arnold** do not renew their contracts.

Additionally, CaughtOffside has reported that **Atletico Madrid are eyeing a move for Darwin Nunez, who recently faced public scrutiny from his manager over his work rate.

Is Nunez on His Way Out?

Speaking on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, Pearce suggested that a Nunez departure is becoming more likely.

He noted that the Uruguayan hasn’t progressed as expected this season, and that Liverpool rejected interest from the Saudi Pro League in January due to the difficulty of finding a mid-season replacement.

Pearce believes a summer exit could be best for all parties, with Liverpool expected to invest in a new No. 9 before the next campaign.

A Replacement is Crucial

Nunez, now in his third season at Anfield, remains a fan favorite for his work ethic and passion. However, his 39 goals in 131 appearances—including just six in 35 games this season—raise questions about his long-term role.

For comparison, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, signed in the same summer for a similar fee, has 56 goals in 97 games, including 21 this season.

While Nunez’s Liverpool future isn’t sealed, his limited Premier League starts this season suggest he may not be Slot’s first choice.

If the club decides to part ways with him, securing a top-tier striker will be essential, especially with the financial backing available for a major attacking upgrade.
