After Erik ten Hag disclosed that he was kept off the matchday squad at Arsenal due to subpar training efforts, Jadon Sancho alleged that he had been used as a “scapegoat” at Manchester United.
Sancho has played as a substitute three times for United so far this season, but he was not selected for the 3-1 loss against Arsenal because Anthony Martial was supported in attack by Marcus Rashford and Antony.
Ten Hag responded, “Jadon, on the basis of his performance in training, was not selected,” when questioned as to why the former Borussia Dortmund winger was completely left out of the team.
“You have to reach a level at Manchester United every day and we may make selections in the front line. He was therefore not chosen for this game.
Contrary to Ten Hag’s evaluation of his performance at Carrington, Sancho insisted that he gave it his all and offered a few “other reasons” for his omission.
On social media, Sancho issued the following statement: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I won’t put up with people making outright false statements.
“I have behaved myself admirably this week during training. I’ve been made the scapegoat for a very long period, which is unfair, but I think there are other factors that I won’t discuss. All I want to do is cheer for my team and play football with a grin on my face.
I play alongside wonderful players and am grateful to be able to do so, even if I am aware that it presents challenges each and every week. I respect all decisions made by the coaching staff. I won’t give up until I get this badge, no matter what.
Sancho was pursued by Man Utd for the better part of two years before they finally signed him in 2021. Further attacking reinforcements like Antony and Rasmus Hojlund have now been brought in to support Ten Hag’s attack as he has battled to hold down a regular starting XI position.
