After a brawl with Erik ten Hag Dortmund, Sancho was kicked off Manchester United’s roster. German clubs are now interested in signing the youngster, probably on loan.
Erik ten Hag is under more pressure now that United has dropped their last two home games.
Jadon Sancho wants to return to Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window following his recent altercation with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, according to 90min.
Sancho moved to United from the Bundesliga club in 2021, but in the two years after his £73 million transfer, his progress at Old Trafford has stagnated. The 23-year-old has played sparingly for United this year and was not included in the squad for the 3-1 loss to Arsenal last month.
Sancho, 23, later responded on social media, saying he “would not allow people to say things that are untrue” and that he had been “made a scapegoat for too long.” Ten Hag claimed after the game that Sancho’s performances in training had led to him being left out of the traveling party to London.
Sancho was thereafter prohibited from first-team practice and is still so today, according to some insiders who maintain that Ten Hag’s relationship with the young player is irreparably damaged. Even though it has been about a month after the initial incident, there are still no indications that things are about to change. However, Sancho’s apology might help him get back into the team.
The situation is being monitored by a number of German clubs with the intention of signing Sancho in the first few months of 2024, but it is believed that Sancho is only currently interested in returning to his previous club Dortmund. A deal with Dortmund might be concluded before January if the situation doesn’t alter over the next three months, though this is also susceptible to change depending on other interest.
Sancho’s profile having been damaged and the January transfer window falling in the middle of the season, where high-value transfers are more uncommon, a loan with an option or obligation to buy in summer 2024 is more likely. United would look to recoup some of the fee they paid to sign Sancho in any permanent sale.
For long time now, 90min has insisted that Dortmund has been interested in Sancho throughout the first two years of his tenure with United and that, even after four seasons together, the two parties remain close.
Sancho’s future at Old Trafford could be affected by a change in Ten Hag’s status; the manager is under increasing pressure as a result of the team’s poor start to the season, but the club is fully supporting Ten Hag in taking disciplinary action against Sancho despite the present results and performances. United has dropped its first two Champions League games and is currently tenth in the Premier League.
