Report: Liverpool Set to Lose Key Player as Summer Exit Looms

A new report suggests that Liverpool are preparing to part ways with a player who has made up his mind about his future at Anfield.

While much of the contract speculation has centered around Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—whose deals expire in June—another player’s departure now seems increasingly likely.

Following Liverpool’s announcement of Giorgi Mamardashvili’s signing last August, it has become apparent that Caoimhin Kelleher may be on his way out.

The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has drawn interest from Chelsea and Newcastle, and those clubs—as well as other potential suitors—have been given a significant boost in their pursuit of the 26-year-old.

Kelleher Set to Reject Liverpool Contract Extension

According to *Football Insider*, Kelleher is unwilling to extend his current contract, which runs until June 2026, and is determined to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Despite impressing while covering for the injured Alisson Becker, he has been unable to claim the No. 1 spot on a permanent basis.

Departure Inevitable, But Liverpool Must Secure a Strong Fee

Although losing a goalkeeper of Kelleher’s caliber would be disappointing, it would also be unfair to block his departure when he is more than capable of being a first-choice option in the Premier League.

Having patiently waited behind Alisson for years, the Irishman—who turned 26 last November—is eager to establish himself as a regular starter rather than remain a backup.

If Liverpool are to cash in this summer, they should ensure they receive a fair transfer fee, considering Kelleher’s impressive performances in both domestic and European competitions—including his crucial penalty save against Kylian Mbappé in the Champions League win over Real Madrid this season.

With Mamardashvili set to arrive, Kelleher’s chances of securing a starting role at Anfield will diminish even further.

While his exit will be a tough pill to swallow, Liverpool must ensure they maximize his value in any potential transfer, something the club has been adept at in recent years.
