Gabby Agbonlahor is strongly advising Kalvin Phillips to depart from Manchester City and consider joining Newcastle United, a club where he believes Phillips would effortlessly secure a place in the team.

Phillips has encountered challenges securing playing time at the Etihad Stadium this season, featuring in only eight games across all competitions, amounting to a mere 215 minutes on the field. Even when Rodri faced suspension earlier in the season, Pep Guardiola displayed a lack of confidence in Phillips, giving him minimal opportunities.

Agbonlahor highlighted Phillips as a player in need of a move during a talkSPORT appearance, stressing the urgency of the situation. He emphasized that Phillips, at 27 years old, should be experiencing the peak of his career, especially after making only 16 appearances for Manchester City.

Expressing doubts about Phillips’ playing prospects at City due to Guardiola’s preference for Rodri, Agbonlahor suggested that a switch to Newcastle, who recently lost Tonali, would be a better fit for Phillips’ talents in the defensive midfield role.

Agbonlahor reiterated the necessity for Phillips to leave City promptly, emphasizing that staying at the club has put his England spot at risk. The limited game time at City has also been reflected in his international appearances, raising concerns about his position in the England squad for Euro 2024.

The likelihood of Phillips making a move in the January transfer window has been reinforced by Fabrizio Romano, indicating that a new opportunity will benefit him, regardless of the destination.
