Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag defended his decision to bench Marcus Rashford during the team’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, calling the reactions from pundits “crazy.”
Despite Rashford having scored three goals in his last two games, Ten Hag opted for a front line of Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo.
United struggled to capitalize on possession, missing chances that allowed Palace to secure a point despite being outplayed.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was among those questioning Ten Hag’s decision, suggesting there could be deeper issues behind Rashford’s omission. Redknapp speculated, “Something seems off.
You don’t drop a player who just scored twice in midweek and again against Southampton. While I wouldn’t say he’s fully back to form, he’s showing glimpses of the Rashford we saw two years ago.”
Redknapp also mentioned Ten Hag’s public criticisms of players, noting, “Sir Alex Ferguson never did that, but Ten Hag has done so multiple times. It doesn’t always work for the players.”
In response, Ten Hag dismissed the speculations, labeling such commentary as “insane.”
