Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate wasn’t happy about missing out on the Player of the Match award against Wolverhampton Wanderers, especially after learning that Gary Neville was the one who made the decision.
Liverpool secured a 2-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Wolves on Saturday, taking them to the top of the Premier League.
Konate opened the scoring with a header in the first half, and Mohamed Salah restored Liverpool’s lead with a penalty after Rayan Ait-Nouri’s equalizer.
During Sky Sports’ commentary, Neville awarded the Player of the Match to Ryan Gravenberch, who delivered another strong midfield performance.
After the game, both Konate and Gravenberch were interviewed by Sky, with Konate being asked to hand over the award to his teammate.
“Sky Sports, who decides the man of the match?” Konate joked. “How is this possible? OK, it’s my brother, I have to give it to him. Milan, I score. Today, I score… I didn’t deserve it?
“No, no, no, what happened? You have to talk to them. I don’t know who decides.”
When told that the decision was made by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, Konate made a face and said, “Thank you, Gary,” as Gravenberch humorously responded.
