Liverpool Player Labelled a Potential ‘Weakness’ After Costly Errors Against Fulham

One Liverpool player has come under scrutiny, with suggestions that he might be a potential ‘weakness’ in Arne Slot’s starting XI following costly mistakes in the recent match against Fulham.

Robertson’s Tough Outing Against Fulham

Andy Robertson endured a nightmare performance in Saturday’s match at Anfield. The Scotland captain was involved in a series of unfortunate moments, including being outpaced by Andreas Pereira for Fulham’s opener, clattered by Issa Diop, and sent off after being adjudged to have denied a goalscoring opportunity—all within the first 17 minutes.

This performance has sparked criticism of Robertson’s recent form, with some questioning if the 30-year-old left-back is now a vulnerability for Liverpool.

Mustoe Questions Robertson’s Form

Speaking on *The 2 Robbies* podcast, NBC Sports pundit Robbie Mustoe analyzed Liverpool’s weekend display and focused on Robertson’s struggles.

“Robertson, again… Is weakness too hard a word for Liverpool, a weakness at left-back? There have been a few challenges and mistakes,” Mustoe said.

“He’s been a brilliant player, but I wonder if he’s lost a step and is making errors. Maybe it’s just a bad spell, but it has probably cost his team a couple of points.”

Still a Vital Player for Liverpool

While Robertson’s showing against Fulham was far from his best, some of the criticism appears exaggerated. Just days earlier, he was named Player of the Match by UEFA in Liverpool’s hard-fought Champions League victory over Girona, demonstrating he can still deliver top performances.

At 30, Robertson might not have the same energy as earlier in his career, but it’s premature to declare him in decline. Despite his dip in attacking contributions this season—managing only one assist in 21 games—he remains a crucial figure for the Reds.

Liverpool’s Left-Back Dilemma

With Kostas Tsimikas sidelined by injury, Liverpool face a challenge at left-back for the next few games. Slot may need to rely on Joe Gomez, known for his versatility, or give young James Norris an opportunity, just as Jurgen Klopp trusted Conor Bradley on the opposite flank earlier this year.

While Robertson’s season has not been vintage so far, he is far from being written off. His experience and leadership will remain vital as Liverpool navigate the challenges ahead.
