Several Liverpool players face uncertainty over their futures this summer, including the oldest member of Arne Slot’s current squad.

Earlier this week, Liverpool confirmed that Adrian has been offered a new deal, but it’s unclear if he’ll commit for another year.

Mundo Deportivo reports that the 37-year-old has spoken with Real Betis about a possible return to his homeland, expressing a strong desire for a second spell in Seville, which has led him to pause contract talks with Liverpool.

Adrian’s last appearance for Liverpool was nearly two years ago in the Community Shield against Manchester City, so it was surprising for fans to learn he’d been offered a new contract after his previous deal expired at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The uncertainty over Caoimhin Kelleher’s future and reported Saudi interest in Alisson Becker might have influenced Liverpool’s decision to try and keep Adrian in case of a goalkeeping shortage.

Given his limited game-time at Liverpool and his career nearing its end, it’s understandable that Adrian, previously praised as a ‘leader at the back’ by the Evening Standard’s Jack Rosser, would want to return home and conclude his playing days there.

If Adrian stays at Liverpool, it’s unlikely he’ll see much game time unless circumstances force it. Richard Hughes is likely to seek a new goalkeeper, especially if Kelleher departs.
