The future of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a hot topic in recent weeks.

Alongside teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, the England international is in the final six months of his contract at Anfield.

With no agreement yet on a new deal and Real Madrid pushing to make him their next right-back, Alexander-Arnold could soon be on his way out of the club.

Real Madrid, the current La Liga leaders, have already approached Liverpool about a potential transfer.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the defender will not leave during the January transfer window.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained:

“The expectation since December has been for no movement in January. Real Madrid initially tried to engage with Liverpool at the start of the window, but it became clear the club had no intention of negotiating for a fee of 20, 25, or 30 million.

“Real Madrid remain confident they can secure Alexander-Arnold as a free agent in the summer. Liverpool, however, are determined to work hard and keep him at the club. We’ll see how the situation develops.”

While Alexander-Arnold has not yet decided on his future, Liverpool face a challenging situation. The defender has played a key role in the team’s successful season, but his delayed decision leaves the club in a vulnerable position.

Real Madrid’s interest, coupled with the prospect of joining his close friend Jude Bellingham in Spain, makes the Spanish side strong contenders to secure his signature this summer.

Although Liverpool hopes to retain Alexander-Arnold long-term, they are preparing for the possibility of his departure.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly a target for the Reds as a potential replacement for the England star.
