Prior to West Ham’s visit to Anfield that week, Michail Antonio made some controversial remarks, but those remarks ultimately came back to get him.

Despite the big disparity between the two teams last season, the 33-year-old confidently claimed that West Ham would finish higher than Liverpool on the Footballer’s Football podcast he co-hosts with Newcastle striker Callum Wilson.

However, Antonio’s forecasts failed to materialize as Liverpool supporters excitedly anticipated the match. To make matters worse, he missed a clear-cut opportunity to score with a point-blank header early in the game.

West Ham’s squandered opportunity was eventually taken advantage of by Liverpool, as Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to make it 1-0. West Ham responded by equalizing with Jarrod Bowen just before halftime, but Liverpool seized control of the game after that. A goal from Darwin Nunez and a late goal from Diogo Jota gave Liverpool a 3-1 victory.

Liverpool has maintained its strong play, scoring three goals for the fourth game in a row to secure their sixth straight victory. Since April, they have now gone 18 games without a loss. It would have been difficult to have predicted this astonishing change of events, especially for Michail Antonio, who opted not to address the media following the game.
