Liverpool are on the verge of completing one of the most expensive transfers in European football history.

As reported by WerkselfXtra (via Stephan von Nocks for Kicker), Florian Wirtz is set to undergo his medical with Liverpool this week after returning from holiday.

The German attacking midfielder has long been tipped for a move to Anfield, and this latest development signals that an official announcement is likely just around the corner.

The deal is expected to be worth up to €150 million, with a base fee of €130 million and additional performance-related bonuses.

These add-ons reportedly include easily attainable goals like match appearances and Champions League qualification, while others are tied to more ambitious targets, such as winning the Champions League.

Wirtz’s decision to join Liverpool, despite reportedly receiving more lucrative offers from Bayern Munich, marks a major statement from the club as they prepare for the 2025/26 season.

The 22-year-old had a sensational 2024/25 campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, racking up 16 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. He’s expected to bring added creativity and flair to Liverpool’s midfield.

Wirtz is poised to become Liverpool’s most expensive signing ever, surpassing previous record deals for Virgil van Dijk and Darwin Núñez.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold now departed and the midfield evolving under a new tactical setup, Wirtz is anticipated to play a key role in the club’s future direction.

Liverpool had an earlier bid rejected, according to Christian Falk, but their persistence eventually paid off. The transfer comes shortly after Jeremie Frimpong also made the move from Leverkusen, with both players set to reunite at Anfield.

This could be the defining signing of the summer—and potentially the beginning of a new era for the Reds.
