A former Liverpool player, celebrated as a cult hero at Anfield, has faced a significant setback at his current club.
Two years after leaving the Reds for AC Milan, Divock Origi’s status at the San Siro has dwindled, with an unsuccessful loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season.
According to Calciomercato, the 29-year-old has been excluded from Milan’s senior squad for their pre-season training and is training with the youth team, along with Fode Ballo-Toure.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now a senior advisor to Milan’s owners, clarified that while Origi and Ballo-Toure were called up, it was for the Milan Futuro team, not the first team.
Ibrahimovic confirmed that Origi is not part of new head coach Paulo Fonseca’s plans, making it likely that the Belgian will seek a permanent exit from San Siro.
Since leaving Liverpool, where he became a legend with memorable goals against Everton, Newcastle, Barcelona, and Tottenham, Origi’s form has declined, with just three goals in 58 appearances.
With two years left on his Milan contract, Origi now awaits a suitor to offer him a way out of his current predicament.
