Erik ten Hag Voices Anger Over Florian Wirtz’s Imminent Move to Liverpool
Bayer Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag has openly expressed his anger over the likely departure of star midfielder Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.
Ten Hag, who recently succeeded Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen following Alonso’s move to Real Madrid, revealed that Wirtz personally informed him of his decision to join the Premier League club this summer.

Liverpool have reportedly tabled a significant offer of £109 million for Wirtz in what could become one of the most expensive transfers in British football history.
Leverkusen, however, have set their asking price at £126 million—surpassing the current record £115 million fee Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo.

Wirtz is reportedly excited about the opportunity to join the Merseyside club, with new manager Arne Slot playing a key role in swaying the midfielder through a private meeting in which he laid out a central role for Wirtz in his tactical plans.
Ten Hag, who was appointed as Leverkusen’s new head coach after leaving Manchester United last October, signed a contract through June 2027 despite receiving interest from clubs including Ajax.
