Erik ten Hag provided an update on Lisandro Martinez’s injury following the defender’s early exit in the second half against West Ham.

Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho secured a convincing 3-0 victory for United on Sunday, marking the club’s largest home league win of the season.

Hojlund, celebrating his 21st birthday, scored his fourth goal in as many games in the 23rd minute, with Garnacho adding two more goals. It was United’s first three-game winning streak since October and only the second such streak of the season.

However, the win came with a setback as Martinez, making only his fourth appearance since returning from a foot injury, appeared to injure his knee in a clash with Vladimir Coufal.

Despite attempting to play on, Martinez was eventually substituted shortly thereafter. Ten Hag expressed concern about Martinez’s injury, describing it as “bad” for both the player and the team.

Speaking to the BBC, Ten Hag said, “It seems bad. We have to wait and make the right diagnosis in the coming days, and then we will see. Hopefully, it is not too severe; we can only hope.

He worked so hard to return, and now after two games, it looks like he may have to miss some more.” Despite the injury setback, Ten Hag praised the team’s overall performance, emphasizing the importance of building on the previous win.

He expressed satisfaction with their attacking threat throughout the game and highlighted the potential of the team’s young players.

Looking ahead, Ten Hag expressed optimism about United’s future, noting the high potential within the team. He emphasized the importance of the team’s unity and willingness to play adventurous football.

Ten Hag also acknowledged the ongoing process of building a team, which includes providing opportunities to young players and relying on experienced players to support and guide them through the ups and downs of the journey.
