Mohamed Salah Confirms Saudi Arabia Talks Before Committing Future to Liverpool

The long-standing speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s potential move to Saudi Arabia has finally been put to rest—though it nearly resulted in a dramatic career switch.

Earlier this season, Salah’s future at Liverpool was clouded by uncertainty due to his contract situation, sparking widespread transfer rumors.

Despite the noise, the Egyptian forward ended the speculation by signing a new two-year deal with Liverpool in April.

However, Salah has now revealed that a switch to Saudi Arabia was a genuine possibility. Interest from the Saudi Pro League had been persistent, with Al Ittihad famously submitting a £150 million offer in August 2023—one Liverpool promptly rejected.

The Saudi league has long considered Salah their dream signing, and negotiations did take place. Speaking to *On Sport*, Salah admitted:

“I thought joining the Saudi League was a real opportunity. Had I not renewed with Liverpool, I may have gone. My ties with people in Saudi Arabia are strong, and serious discussions were held.”

Salah also acknowledged the vital role Liverpool fans played in his contract extension, saying:

*“The fans pressured the club to keep me—I’ve been here seven years, and from the start, they made it clear they wanted me to stay.”

Salah’s impact this season was immense. He finished as the Premier League’s Player of the Season, securing both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards.

His 34 goals and 23 assists across all competitions were pivotal to Liverpool’s title-winning campaign and a testament to why keeping him was essential.

While Salah is now set to remain at Anfield until 2027, the door to a future move to the Middle East remains open when his contract expires.
