After Erik ten Hag’s departure from Old Trafford, Manchester United is on the hunt for a new manager.
Although it seemed Ten Hag might leave over the summer following United’s eighth-place Premier League finish, a victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final provided him a reprieve and secured Europa League qualification.
However, heavy losses to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool signaled a likely end to his tenure, despite support from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Dan Ashworth, and Omar Berrada.
After drawing with West Ham United this past weekend, Ten Hag leaves with United sitting 14th in the league, with only three wins out of nine matches.
The search for his replacement now falls to Ineos. Ten Hag’s assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, will serve as interim head coach until a permanent manager is appointed.
Ratcliffe’s main concern will be the cost of bringing in a permanent replacement for Ten Hag.
United, after years of high spending, is working to manage its finances and is not in a position to allocate substantial funds toward a new managerial hire.
