Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly in discussions with a Premier League team about a potential return to management.
Since his departure from United in November 2021, Solskjaer has declined several managerial offers from both clubs and national teams and has not coached since.
Recently, he narrowly missed out on the Besiktas job, but the Norwegian appears eager to return to the sidelines.
According to the Sun, Solskjaer hinted earlier this year that he might consider another club position, which could materialize with newly promoted Leicester City, who have reportedly reached out to the 51-year-old.
Leicester City, having recently achieved promotion back to the Premier League, are in search of a new manager following Enzo Maresca’s abrupt departure to Chelsea.
Reports suggest that Leicester chairman Top Srivaddhanaprabha holds Solskjaer in high regard, having considered him for the role last summer after Dean Smith’s departure, though the position ultimately went to Maresca.
While no formal negotiations have been reported yet, Solskjaer is expected to be on Leicester’s shortlist of candidates to replace Maresca.
Solskjaer initially took over as caretaker manager at Manchester United in December 2018, following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, and led the team to impressive performances in his first two full seasons at Old Trafford, securing third and second-place finishes in the Premier League.
Despite early successes, Solskjaer was dismissed following a poor run of form, with five losses in seven Premier League games culminating in a 4-1 defeat to Watford.
Since leaving United, Solskjaer has remained active in football, serving as a technical observer for UEFA since last September.
Leicester City is also reportedly considering other candidates for their managerial position, including Steve Cooper from Nottingham Forest and former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
Solskjaer’s potential return to management with Leicester City would mark an interesting chapter in his career, given his attacking style of play and ability to develop young talent.
Known for his experience managing a top club like Manchester United, Solskjaer could bring stability and continued growth to Leicester City.
His familiarity with the English top-flight and ability to handle pressure make him a strong contender for the role.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer will return to Premier League management with Leicester City or if another candidate will take the helm.
His potential comeback is a testament to his resilience and enduring appeal in the footballing world.
