English winger Raheem Sterling is not yet able to train with Feyenoord after his recent move, as the club is still waiting for his work permit to be approved, according to talkSPORT.

The 31-year-old joined the Dutch side this week after Chelsea ended his contract during the January transfer window.

Although Sterling is keen to get back to playing after not featuring all season at Chelsea, he must first receive the necessary paperwork before he can train or play.

Speaking after signing, Sterling said that being without a club gave him rare time to carefully consider his next step. He explained that he wanted to join a team where he could truly make an impact.

After detailed talks with CEO Dennis te Kloese and head coach Robin van Persie, he felt the move was right. He also described playing abroad as an exciting new chapter in his career.

Van Persie welcomed the signing, saying Sterling’s experience and ability to influence games would be a big boost as the club looks to achieve its goals this season.

Feyenoord are currently second in the Eredivisie, 17 points behind leaders PSV. The club hopes to have Sterling available soon, though he is unlikely to play in this weekend’s home game against Go Ahead Eagles. A debut next week against SC Telstar is seen as more realistic.
