Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, has drawn criticism from Samir Handanovic, a former coworker from Inter.
After months of rumors about his future, Onana signed for Inter in the summer of 2022 after leaving Ajax on a free transfer.
Onana did not make his Serie A debut until October, but club captain Handanovic kept his spot in the lineup, despite the Cameroonian playing every minute of their famous Champions League run to the final.
Onana would take over the starting position for the duration of the season, despite occasionally receiving a break for league games during their successful European run.
At the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, Onana and Handanovic both left Inter; the former joined United, and the latter is now planning to terminate his playing career.
In a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Handanovic addressed Onana’s earlier remarks in which he claimed that his transition to Inter “wasn’t easy.”
“I liked those words, but I didn’t like his behaviour in the first two months, when he didn’t play,” Handanovic stated.
“Then he confessed the truth, and I must add that I always stayed true to him and even offered to assist him.
“However, no one mentioned that I suffered from ailments last season that cost me, including a broken wrist, a broken finger, and a strained calf.
“But even when I wasn’t available, I always sat on the bench with the team. And because I support the team and its supporters, I would never be against the team.
The transition to life at United has not been easy for Onana either. Only two of the Red Devils’ first five games have ended in victories, and they have suffered three losses.
In their 1-0 victory over Wolves at home, the 27-year-old kept just one clean sheet. He was extremely fortunate to have avoided giving up a last-second penalty for tripping over striker Sasa Kalajdzic.
