Former England manager Gareth Southgate openly discussed his future and shared his intentions for Manchester United following Erik Ten Hag’s exit.
The 57-year-old Gareth Southgate stepped down as England manager after this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany, where the team lost 2-1 to Spain in the final, three years after their penalty defeat to Italy.
Despite being credited with uniting the national team, Southgate has faced criticism for not delivering England’s first major trophy since 1966.
His past connections with FA sports director Dan Ashworth have sparked speculation about a potential role at Manchester United.
However, Southgate has made it clear he will not rush into a new job. Speaking at the European Club Association general conference, he told BBC’s Simon Stone, “I will not coach next year, for sure.
I need time to make the right decision and allow my body and mind to rest after a major project.”
In the meantime, Southgate and former United manager David Moyes are expected to serve as UEFA technical observers, analyzing matches and generating detailed reports based on statistics and video analysis.
This role also includes identifying football trends to provide coaches with deeper insights into the game.
