In a pivotal FA Cup match at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White drew comparisons between Liverpool’s disallowed goal in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea and Manchester United’s winning goal against Forest.

The game appeared headed for extra time until Brazilian standout Casemiro’s header from Bruno Fernandes’ free kick secured United’s 1-0 victory in the 89th minute.

However, VAR’s prolonged review of Raphael Varane’s potential offside position, seemingly obstructing a Forest defender, added controversy to the decisive moment.

Gibbs-White’s frustration spilled onto social media as he shared a comparison image of both incidents.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk had a goal disallowed in the Carabao Cup final due to Wataru Endo’s offside position, impeding a Chelsea player.

Varane’s positioning during United’s goal, closer to the middle of the box, raised questions about potential interference with the defending player’s ability to reach the ball. Despite the similarities, Gibbs-White’s post has since been removed.

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo expressed uncertainty about the situation, acknowledging the players’ observations of a potential offside-inducing block.

Reflecting on the challenges posed by VAR and officiating throughout the season, Santo urged his team to move forward and focus on upcoming fixtures.

Despite the disappointment of conceding a late goal, Santo praised the fans’ support and emphasized the need to appreciate their dedication.

Santo’s mixed emotions were evident as he lamented the heartbreaking defeat while acknowledging the joy of playing at the City Ground.

Despite the setback, Santo emphasized the importance of regrouping quickly for their next match.

Looking ahead, Manchester United’s victory sets up a quarterfinal clash with Liverpool, promising another high-stakes encounter in the FA Cup.
