Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, has been sent off for the second time in five days.
After being dismissed during United’s 3-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham on Sunday, Fernandes received another red card.
This time, he was shown a second yellow card for a high foot in the 82nd minute of their 3-3 Europa League draw against Porto.
The Portuguese midfielder had already been booked for a similar high-foot challenge earlier in the match.
As he attempted to reach a cross, Porto defender Nehuen Perez lowered his head to clear the ball, then fell to the ground holding his face.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson commented on BBC Radio 5 Live, saying, “Bruno Fernandes is not happy.
He went in high with his foot, which is dangerous. While Fernandes was focused on the ball, the referee had no choice in the matter.”
