Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool “still have the opportunity” to strike a deal with their 26-year-old standout.

Liverpool enjoyed a strong summer transfer window but couldn’t wrap up all their planned business. A move for Marc Guehi fell through at the final stage, and uncertainty still surrounds Ibrahima Konate’s future.

The French defender is now in the last year of his contract, meaning he can begin talks with other clubs in January – with Real Madrid among those monitoring his situation closely.

Reports earlier this week suggested Konate had turned down Liverpool’s latest contract proposal, though there’s still optimism that he could commit his long-term future to Anfield.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool will have multiple opportunities before January to strike a new deal and prevent Real Madrid from stepping in.

Talks between the player and club, once close to agreement last year, stalled over fresh details. Meanwhile, Real Madrid continue to keep him firmly on their radar.

Liverpool will be determined not to see history repeat itself after losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Madrid earlier this year. For now, though, the matter remains unresolved, leaving Anfield chiefs frustrated and fans anxious.
