Liverpool fans were likely disheartened this afternoon as they watched Alisson Becker leave the field due to injury.
The Brazilian goalkeeper suffered a hamstring issue with just under 15 minutes remaining in the match against Crystal Palace and couldn’t continue.
With regular backup Caoimhin Kelleher unavailable due to illness, Vitezslav Jaros made his senior debut for the Reds.
Paul Gorst noted Alisson’s frustration, writing in the Liverpool Echo’s live matchday blog (14:05): “Alisson is down holding the back of his leg. Not looking good.
He was forced to shank a left-footed clearance out of play and he’s just palmed the ground in frustration.”
Alisson’s status as a world-class goalkeeper is unquestioned, but his recurring injury issues are undoubtedly a concern for Liverpool supporters.
Last season, he missed two months with a similar hamstring problem and was sidelined for a couple of games in September, during which Kelleher stepped in.
While the upcoming international break provides a 15-day window before the next match, there’s concern that this type of injury could take longer to heal.
Liverpool may feel fortunate they didn’t sell Kelleher over the summer, given Alisson’s latest setback.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t too severe, and Alisson will return to the pitch soon.
