Liverpool’s current centre-back options will have to manage as they face Brentford, with Jarell Quansah likely to miss the match due to injury.
According to The Echo’s Paul Gorst on X (formerly Twitter), the young defender was absent from the latest training session at the AXA Centre, following Arne Slot’s earlier confirmation of Quansah’s injury.
Liverpool started the 2024/25 season with a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Ipswich Town, largely due to a stronger second-half performance.
As for central defence, Liverpool still has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez available before needing to turn to Academy players.
Nat Phillips is also an option, but relying on a fifth-choice or unproven talent is not ideal.
While the club may need to make room in the squad, considering Konate and Gomez’s injury history, it might be risky to not have additional reinforcements.
Though Quansah’s injury doesn’t seem too severe, Liverpool could be taking an unnecessary gamble.
